What to expect in a private session
The first and most important step in our treatment process will be a conversation. It is important that the specific circumstances surrounding your condition are understood, but also the history that lead to it and any other pertinent medical conditions. We also will discuss what you feel is happening with your body, what you think might be wrong and what you think the potential is for recovery. An individual’s perception of their condition and potential will significantly affect their path to recovery. Finally, we will discuss how these things impact your life and what your goals for success are. Not until we have thoroughly discussed all of the above will we begin a physical examination.
Physical examinations vary between clients based on their needs. Generally, we will assess your joint mobility, movement habits, strength, sensation, and other standard components. We will also then look into how you move, what positions or movements you gravitate toward, and how this may apply stress to certain areas of your body. We look at how you coordinate movements and how your muscles interact together. We look into how different regions of the body affect each other and how changes in one area can have an impact on others. In each subsequent session, we will continue to refine your movement patterns and your understanding of how you move. This will ultimately create ease and comfort in your daily activities.
Finally, we begin the work of retraining. The approach, technique, and style will vary greatly from person to person depending on their physical ability level, pain, goals, comfort, and personality. While individual treatments vary significantly they all have the same goals. To have you understand your condition and what is causing it and how to make the necessary changes to feel better.
Self-improvement of any kind is a lifelong journey. The goal at the end of our work together is for you to not only feel comfortable and achieve your goals but to better understand how your body works and how you can manage problems that will inevitably arise in the future. You will have the tools and knowledge to manage your condition on your own now and in the future.
